~ Bruce and Junne's 3rd Anniversary ~

Solvang, California ~ May 19th - 21st 2001

Solvang - Danish capital of America, boasts gentle rolling hills, windmills, quiet streets, horse drawn carriages, family bicycles, golf courses, horse ranches, wineries, Danish bakeries, authentic Danish costumes worn by some shop keepers,  Danish smorgasbord restaurants, museums of racing and Solvang history, all in the Danish atmosphere and architecture.  Lots of shops line the streets with stores ranging from hand made crafts to olive tasting and even a pet supply store.

We stayed at a family owned inn called The Inn at Petersen Village, located in the heart of Solvang.

The rooms were large and luxurious and the hotel has only 40 rooms total, which makes the atmosphere very quaint and charming.

The rooms are situated over specialty shops and the view we had from our window was looking down in the courtyard overlooking a large water fountain.  In the evenings, they have complimentary wine and cheese, authentic Danish pastries and live piano entertainment.

We ate at a lot of different places - We ate at the Mustard Seed Restaurant on our first night here.

Our favorite lunch place was called Cafe Angelica - which is a bistro located right off the main street.

Lots of shops to get antiques too.  Too many, if you ask me!  ( that's a "good thing" ) We browsed the many arts and crafts stores and just spent 2 leisurely days here.  One thing I noticed, even though there are many shops here and there, most of them had something unique to offer, from wooden shoe souvenirs to handcrafted quilts.  There was even an Olive-tasting store called The Olive House which had every imaginable pickled, roasted, canned olives you can think of!  Come to think of it, I have never seen so many different varieties and ways of preparing olives in my life!  It was like being in "Olive" heaven.

Solvang is a very "artsy-fartsy" ( which in my opinion, is also a "good thing" ) type of town with lots of different things to amuse almost anyone!

We had a great time!
