Sept 27- Oct 1st 2001 Bruce & Junne Kona, Hawaii |
~ Our trip to KONA, HAWAII ~ Just about everywhere you look, on the sides of the main highway, you will notice that people have written and made their own mark in Kona. The Hawaiians call this their graffiti, environmentally safe graffiti, that is! They use white coral and against the black lava, makes a striking contrast. The "graffiti" ranges from the very elaborate with shrines made of palm trees and flower leis, to just initials and names of the person who wrote them. Take a look. And the best part, it's legal - you won't get arrested! |

Aug 15th - 17th 2000 Bruce & Junne Disney world - Florida |
~ A vacation at Disney World ~ We arrived on August 15th and spent the day and evening at The Epcot Center. ( Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow ) There is so much to experience here, from the Millennium Villages that explores people and cultures from more than 25 different countries and cultures, to the nightly Tapestry of Nations street festival with colorful 20 foot puppets dancing to jubilant harmonies in the air. We also watched the Illuminations 2000 - Reflections of Earth - This 360-degree nighttime spectacular show incorporates special effects, colorful lasers and brilliant fireworks, fiery torches over the water, all to a stirring original score. Then on Wednesday, Aug 16th, we started the day off at MGM studios. The very first ride we went on was The Tower of Terror set to The Twilight Zone theme. You take a ride thru the hotel elevator thru some creepy corridors, all set to the original Rod Sterlinghs theme, music and voice - once you get inside the elevator shaft and the doors close, it takes you up to the 13th floor and it drops you, 13 stories into "The Twilight Zone" again and again and again... Then immediately after we got off of that ride, we went over to the "Rock 'n' Roller Coaster" ride which was pretty fun. It starts out with a limo ride all set to the driving beat of the rock group Aerosmith and jets you 60 miles per hour! Supposedly, this is the first roller coaster ever with a corkscrew turn on Disney soil. We also did the Backlot tram tours and looked through the shops on the strip and ate lunch at a restaurant called The Brown Derby. ( the same Brown Derby that's famous in Hollywood ) We left there mid day and headed over to The Animal Kingdom just a few minutes away. Luckily we can hop buses pretty easily and everything is within a few minutes away. At the Animal Kingdom we took The Killimanjaro Safari tour which goes thru the jungle observing the wild animals as if they were in their own environment in Africa. All the animals roamed freely though none of them got anywhere close to our vehicle. We saw a great 3-D special effects show called "A Bug's Life", roamed around the paths and saw some exotic animals, and also saw "The Tree Of Life" which is the Animal Kingdom's tree that stands 14 stories tall with over 325 animals carvings represented on the trunks. Lots of nature stuff here. We left here at closing ( 6:00pm ) and headed back over to The Epcot Center again. It was a very long day for us as we stayed at The Epcot Center until about 10:00pm. Thursday, August 17th, we headed over to The Magic Kingdom. I was kind of disappointed as there were many rides that they did not have ( comparing it to Disneyland in Los Angeles ) such as The Matterhorn, and a few other differences between the parks, such as some of the events like Fantasmic not being done here in the park but at The Epcot Center. I noticed too that the Pirates of The Caribbean was shorter and less animated than Disneyland, and the Haunted House was different as well. Maybe I am just used to Disneyland, having been there over 15 times! Disneyworld DID have it's charm with the whole network of other theme parks in the area, it certainly made it a very eventful 3 days! What's nice is that you can get a pass to let you go to all of the area theme parks as many times as you like!

Aug 15th 2000 Bruce & Junne Epcot Center, Florida |
~ Part of our trip to Disney World: Epcot Center ~ When we went to Epcot during the Millennium Celebration, we had our picture taken and added to the Leave a Legacy Sculpture at the front of the park. This massive sculpture holds thousands of images left by people like us. It is taken first with a digital camera and then etched in steel in little 1 inch squares. These "reverse" image squares are now a part of the sculpture and it is our wish that future generations will have the chance to see our image on the Sculpture and to visit their website ( http://www.Disney.com/LivingLegacy ) where we are recording our hopes and dreams for their future. This image, represents the beginning of what will one day become a living family tree, to be expanded by and shared with our family across the generations. This image holds a place of honor on the Leave a Legacy Sculpture at the threshold of Epcot?. Envisioned as a bridge to the future for the people of today, the Leave a Legacy Sculpture stands as a lasting tribute to a once-in-a-lifetime event -- the Walt Disney World? Millennium Celebration. We hope you will share with us some of your pictures, hopes and dreams to share with the rest of our family and for future generations to come. Bruce and Junne Webbe |

May 24th 2000 Betty Hoolahan Ireland |
Betty Hoolahan's trip to Ireland - We left for Ireland on May 24th and returned on June 2nd. We arrived in Dublin and traveled to Sligo, Londonderry, Galway, "The Cliffs of Moher", Kilarney, Waterford, "Blarney Castle" and much more before returning to Dublin for our departure back to the US. What a wonderful experience, I sincerely suggest it for all, especially if you have the "Irish roots", (Hoolahan's, Brady's, etc.) |

Mar 11th, 2000 Bruce & Junne Northstar, Tahoe, Nevada |
Our most recent trip was to Lake Tahoe, Nevada. We skied at the Northstar Resort in Incline Village - Northshore. This was Bruce's first time skiing. We took a 1 1/2 hour ski lesson and then spent the rest of the day skiing the beginner runs. Most of the runs here are pretty long, even the beginner ones are about 1/2 mile or more in length. There's quite a variety of other snow related sports you can do here as well, such as Inner-tubing, Dog sled rides, Snowboarding, and Snowmobiling. The day we skied was beautiful, about 55 degrees with little or no wind at all and sunny all day long. The resort was packed with Snowboarders and Skiers. They say, this was the first weekend to be clear and having ideal weather. We had alot of fun! No injuries, just a few sore muscles and some blisters from the tight boots. ( This picture was taken at a Pontiac display for Snowboarding, we're not "really" snowboarding! <laugh> ) Our next trip we are going to try snowboarding though. |

May 1999 Bruce & Junne Playa del Carmen, Mexico |
PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico We took a 5 day trip to Playa del Carmen, Mexico - It's about a 35 mile drive from CANCUN. Playa del Carmen is more known as a small coastal fishing village with a few hotels and some local shops. A passenger ferry docks close to town and goes to nearby COZUMEL several times a day. We took a one day excursion to Cozumel and spent the day there shopping and just sightseeing. We also did a one day trip to a Mayan ruin called Chichen-Itza. Chichen-Itza is the most famous archaeological site in the Yucatan. Its located some 126 miles from Cancun. Founded in 445, it was occupied until approximately 1204 A.D when it was mysteriously abandoned. The archaeology of the sites represent the many different cultures that found residence there, including ancient Puuc and Chenes styles. Just before 1200 A.D. the Mayan civilization was invaded by the Toltec tribe, a warlike people from central Mexico. The architectural innovations such as the jaguars, eagles, Tialoc ( the rain god ), Quetzalcoatl ( the plumed serpent god ) and other elements are very apparent throughout the area. The trip was very fascinating and VERY hot ( about 95 degrees in the shade ) and lots of humidity! Best of all, the beaches are the most beautiful with its powdery white sand and turquoise warm waters which in some areas seem uninhabited. |
